Getting Your Home Ready for Market

Getting Ready for Market:
  • Sweep the sidewalk, mow the lawn, prune the bushes, weed the garden and clean debris from the yard.

  • Clean the windows and make sure the paint is not chipped or flaking around window sills (inside and out) and door frames. Chipping, peeling paint issues must be corrected for certain types of loans. Be sure that the doorbell works.

  • Clean and make attractive all rooms, furnishings, floors, walls and ceilings. It's especially important that the bathroom and kitchen are spotless.

  • De-clutter, De-clutter, De-clutter. Organize closets. Cluttered closets suggest there is not enough storage space in the home.

  • Make sure the basic appliances and fixtures are in good working order. Get rid of leaky faucets and frayed cords. Buyers will discount your price if there are any deferred repairs.

  • Remove extra furniture and accessories that you don’t use everyday. Your home will feel more spacious.

  • If you smoke: do extra cleaning, pay attention to odors. Use a carpet freshener each time you vacuum to maintain a fresh scent, and consider smoking outside while your house is on the market.

Getting Ready for a Showing:
  • Have the front entrance clean, eliminate fingerprints from door.

  • Ensure that the house smells good.

  • Quiet, pleasant background music is always a nice touch.

  • Move the kitty litter, dog dishes. All pets should be secured outside/inside garage. If you have an indoor pet, always have it meticulously groomed.

  • Let as much light in the home as possible. Open curtains, have lights on in all rooms.
